The National Nordic Museum, nestled in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, serves as a testament to Nordic history, art, culture, and the heritage of the area's Nordic immigrants. Founded in 1980, the museum has undergone several transformations, moving into a purpose-built facility in 2018 and gaining national designation in 2019.
Bonus sighting at the museum will be one of Thomas Dambo's infamous trolls.
The founder of Kangaroo & Kiwi, Bradley Howe, hails from the small town of Harden-Murrumburrah in Australia. With a dream to recreate the pub environment he grew up with, Bradley poured his heart and soul into establishing Kangaroo & Kiwi. From the moment you step in, you’ll feel the warmth of a true Aussie/Kiwi pub — a place where everyone is welcome, whether you’re here for a quick drink, a meal, or to catch the latest sports match. Fun fact, the building used to be a public library. Lunch is not included within cost of trip.
The Ballard Locks, officially known as the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, is an incredible engineering marvel located in Seattle, Washington. Completed in 1911, this lock system serves to connect the Puget Sound with Lake Washington and has become a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. The locks allow vessels to pass between different water levels, which is necessary due to the significant elevation difference. The high tide of Puget Sound is about 22 feet above the level of Lake Washington, so the locks facilitate safe and easy navigation for boats and other vessels.
The facilities are also home to the fish ladder, which facilitates the migration of salmon between fresh and salt water. Visitors can observe the salmon as they travel upstream during the spawning seasons, providing a unique and educational experience. The Ballard Locks is more than just a transit point; it is a place of learning about the ecology and engineering that help the city thrive.
We will be leaving Ballard at 3:30
